September 26

Today we did a pond reflection.  We did the Terry Fox run and did a page to honour his legacy in our sketchbooks!  In math we played a new game called "What's the Difference".  This is a good game for families to play at home to practice subtraction!  Tomorrow we will be bringing home "Friday Journals", students will share the highlights of the week in their journals.  Please read the journal and return Monday morning.   Reminders: Tomorrow is a half day  We are still collecting toonies or loonies for Terry Fox Dress for the weather!  We will be going outside in all weather types!  

September 25

We did gym outside today - we played hot dog tag.  We went to the pond this afternoon and did six directions journalling in our Nature Nook.  We read the book "If You Hold a Seed", we collected seeds at the pond.  We did word problem Wednesday in math today.   Reminders:  Tomorrow is Terry Fox Run - be prepared to be outside.   We are collecting Toonies for Terry  Orange Shirt day is next week Grade 5 Patrols - be ready for your new shifts Fun lunch is tomorrow  

Open Minds School

Dear Parents,  As many of you are aware, we will be attending an Open Minds Program in November.  We are very fortunate to be going to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area November 4-8.  We are looking for 3-5 volunteers per day to attend this program with us.  If we do not have enough volunteers, there is a possibility that we will not be able to go.  There is still time to get a police clearance and sign the volunteer registration forms!   If you are able to volunteer for any or all of these days, please let me know!  I am happy to find a spot for any parents that are able to join us that week!   Thank you for your support!  Mrs. Gordon 

September 24

Today we worked on grass field ecosystems in science.  We had gym in the music room and music in our room.  Mrs. Gordon brought her drum and shared it with us.  We did true or false Tuesday in math.   Parents, please note that with the Terry Fox run moving back to Thursday, we will planning a trip to the pond on Wednesday.  It looks like the weather will hold up for us and it should be a great afternoon!  Please ensure that you child comes prepared to spend the afternoon learning outside.  A jacket and proper footwear are needed.   Reminders:  Terry Fox run is Thursday afternoon.  We are collecting Toonies for Terry.   Pond Trip Wednesday afternoon Homework:  What is the name of the coniferous tree that loses it's needles?  

September 23

Today we did science, we read about grass ecosystems.  We had gym today.  We went outside and did Six Direction journalling.   Reminders:  Tuesday is picture day!  Running Club is tomorrow at lunch  The new patrols begin tomorrow Terry Fox run is Wednesday afternoon - we are collecting toonies for Terry.   Homework:  What is the only coniferous tree that loses its needles in the fall?  

September 19

Today in gym we played bench ball, we played boys vs girls.  We did hand art.  We learned a new Grandfather teaching, Honesty.  Think it Thursday was challenging in math today!  The grade 5 Patrols had a meeting at lunch and received Patrol cards.  There is an event at Calaway Park this weekend that Patrols may choose to attend with their families.   Reminders:  Open House is tonight 4:30-6pm No school Friday Picture Day Tuesday  Running Club Tuesday 

September 18

Today the grade 5s had patrol training, the other students worked with Mrs. King on brochures about human impact on the environment.  We went outside for gym today and played tag games. Today we learned about another grandfather teaching, honesty.   Reminders: Open House is Thursday 4:30-6pm No school Friday Patrol Meeting at lunch Running Club Tuesday at lunch, please return forms by Monday 

September 17

Today we did true or false Tuesday in math.  It would benefit students to continue to practice basic facts (times tables) at home.  As well, any conversations about the value of money would help students solidify knowledge and understandings ie. a quarter is worth 25 cents, if I had one dollar and gave you 25 cents, how much would I have left? We read a book called "Ish" and did a quick art activity.  In gym we ran to practice for the Terry Fox run, our teams did 39, 41, 42 and 43 laps.   Reminders:  Open House is Thursday from 4:30-6pm  No school on Friday  Coupon books can be returned to the school on Wednesdays to fill orders

September 16

In Science we used the computers, we went to a Learn Alberta website and learned about ecosystems.  We did make it Monday in math today.  In gym we played bench ball.   Reminders:  Patrol Training for grade 5 in the morning - be here!  Open House Thursday evening - 4:30-6pm No School Friday

September 13

M rs. O came to our classroom for part of the morning.  We did a pond reflection today in our sketchbooks.  We had gym and we played four corners, blob tag and squirrels and foxes. We did some math this morning called Shake it Up.  We had to represent numbers in different ways.   Reminders: Patrol forms are due Monday for grade 5s.  Patrol training is Wednesday.   Next Thursday is Open House from 4:30-6pm.  
September 11  Today we did Word Problem Wednesday in math.  Today during our literacy time, we learned more about Respect and the Buffalo.  We created a living and non living sketchbook page - ask me what makes something a living thing!   Reminders: Tomorrow we are walking to the pond.  Please be prepared.  
September 9  Today we did art, we drew a face and painted it and tomorrow we will write words that we value onto the face.  In math we did Make it Monday, our numbers were - 32, 64, 391, 7667, 6776. In literacy today we learned about the Seven Grandfather Teachings and the animals that represent each teaching.   Reminders:   Patrol Meeting for interested grade 5s tomorrow at lunch Always be prepared for Outdoor Recess!!  We will go outside no matter the weather!
