January 29

Today we went to gym with Kindergarten to help them with gymnastics. In math we worked with the long division strategy.  We did Literature Circles.  We are still working on our snowflakes.   Today was a "Hats On for Mental Health day". We started the day talking about mental health and the many ways that we keep our mental health strong.  I have included the link to the Kids Help Phone website and the phone number in case students need to talk to someone.  This is a great resource that offers free, confidential assistance to children.   https://kidshelpphone.ca/  . January 28

Today we learned a new math strategy for multiplication - called the standard algorithm.  We worked on our snowflakes.  We continued our gymnastics routines in gym.  We did Literature circles this morning.  Reminders:  Friday is a PD Day Please bring an empty, clean glass jar for science next week

January 27

Today is Family literacy Day, Mr. Mori shared a book with us called, "Micheal Recycle, Litterbug Doug."  We did Literature Circles this morning, we focused on reading strategies.  In gym we used ladders in the gymnastics.  We worked on our art/math/science snowflakes.  Reminders: Friday is a PD Day

We had gym with the grade 6s, we played reverse bench ball.  We were looking at snowflakes to create some designs for a new math project.  Friday journals are coming today with the highlights from the week!  Reminders:  January 31st is a PD Day

This afternoon we went to the pond and did some exploring of snow.  We did gymnastics today.  We learned a new division strategy called partial quotient.  We did Literature circles this morning.   Reminders: Please bring Friday Journals tomorrow

January 21

In gym we are doing gymnastics, please remember hair elastics.  Today in math we did True or False Tuesday and some more division practice. We did literature circles to end the day.  Reminders:  There is a special lunch on Thursday.  We are going to the Pond on Thursday afternoon - please be prepared to be dressed for the weather and outside. 

January 20

Today Constable Gemma came and talked to us about Online Safety.  We need to not share personal information online and make sure our posts are appropriate.  We did Literature Circles this morning.  We practiced some division and did a different kind of Make it Monday with cards.  We are doing a sketchbook Water Cycle representation. Reminders: Constable Gemma gave us homework:  Make sure you know your address and one phone number of a trusted adult. 

January 17

We did Friday Journals.  We started "Fun Fact Friday" by making basic fact flash cards.  We played Bench Ball with the grade 6s in gym.   Reminders:  Dress for the Weather  Yearbook flyers are coming home along with invoices for people that have not yet ordered a yearbook.  If you are interested in ordering a yearbook - please log onto your my CBE account.  If you are not interested in ordering a yearbook, please disregard this notice.

Today we experimented with freezing bubbles. We did snowflake art this morning - we were focusing on symmetry.  We had gym with the grade 6s - we played Squirrels and Acorns and Revenge Tag.   Reminders: Dress for the weather Spend some time researching what a crystal is!   Memorize basic facts

We worked on our regions projects.  We learned about the water cycle and did a little quiz online.  We learned a new division strategy called the box method.  Reminders:  Dress warmly!  Please return report card envelopes Please return Friday Journals

Today we did science - we did some more weather work.  We had a substitute this morning.  We worked on our region research in social.  We worked on base ten division in math.   Reminders: Dress for the weather!  Orff the Wall meeting Thursday  BWS Yearbooks Bridlewood School is very fortunate this year as one of our parents, who is a photographer and graphic artist/web designer, has generously volunteered her talent and time to create our yearbook. So many thanks to Melinda Gombert for this. Melinda has just finished designing the cover for the yearbook.  If you haven’t purchased a yearbook yet and would like to do so, you can do through accessing your fees online (MyCBE/PowerSchool account).  You will need to go to the Goods/Services tab to locate the optional fees, double click the yearbook line, the fee will then attach to your account, or return this invoice indicating that you wish to purchase the year book and the fee will be added to your account from the

January 13

Today we did a division strategy with base ten materials.  We did some science - we sketch noted the "Reasons for the Seasons".  When we tracked the weather for today we discovered that Calgary is not as cold as Yellowknife!  And Victoria is quite warm!  We checked out the cold weather policies of school boards across the country.  Reminders:  Be prepared for the weather!  Dress warmly!  Bring back Report Card envelopes - you do not need to return the report card.

Today we learned about a skill called Sketch noting, we are going to practice it tomorrow with some science learning.  We did Think it Thursday today.  We worked on our region research and projects.  We did Literature Circles.  Reminders:  Dress for the weather!!! January 8

We did Weekly Math - Word Problem Wednesday today and used the partial product method.  We used computers to learn about regions in Alberta and Canada.  We did Literacy Circles.  We learned about Weather and Climate - ask me how they are different.  We are tracking the weather in cities across Canada.   Reminders:  Be prepared for the weather - dress warmly Practice basic facts  Tomorrow we go to the Learning Commons  Orff the Wall forms are due Monday

January 7

Welcome back!  Happy New Year!  Today we learned a new multiplication strategy - the partial product strategy. Show someone at home tonight! We played a new multiplication game - Close to 100.  We started a new Social project - we are researching regions of Alberta and Canada.  Reminders:  Learn multiplication basic facts - grade 4 to 7 x 7 and grade 5 to 9 x 9 We will be going outside if the weather is warmer than -19.  Please be prepared with warm jackets, mitts, toques, snow pants and warm boots.
