October 31

We worked on our mural today, we outlined the animals and did a chalk pastel sky.  We learned about perimeter and area in math.  We did Think it Thursday in math.   Reminders:  Tomorrow is a PD day - no school for students. Monday-Friday next week we are at Open Minds at Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area.  There is a notice coming home with more info and reminders. Next Friday is a full day - we will be returning to school around 2:45.  Please make sure your child has a dismissal plan.  There is a fundraising notice coming home as well.

October 30

Today we did math - we did Word Problem Wednesday and Cross Math. The grade 5s practiced some two digit multiplication.  The grade 4s learned a multiplying trick with 10s.  During outside gym, we played a new game called, "Yoshi".   Reminders: We go to Open Minds at Ann and Sandy Cross beginning on Monday - be prepared for any kind of weather! Tomorrow - is Orange and Black day Friday there is no school for students Please see below for Open Minds reminders: We depart the school each day at 8:30 - please ensure your child is on time!  Students need to bring a lunch, water bottle and extra snacks - we will be outside and students may want an extra healthy snack.  Students need to be prepared to be outside for the day - we will be outside no matter the weather - students need: mitts, toques, warm boots, snow pants and warm jackets.  You may want to send extra socks or mitts.  We will return to the school at our regular dismissal time Monday - Thursday.  Friday we will r

October 28

Today we did a Make it Monday in math.  We did a little bit on our mural, we are working on adding animals to the grasslands.  We learned another literature circle job - illustrator.  We are researching at risk and endangered animals from the grasslands.   Reminders: Math journals are coming home today - parents please sign and return tomorrow.   Field Trip forms are due Wednesday. 

October 25

Today we started our mural!  We did Thank you Friday.  We wrote our Friday journals - please make sure they come back to school on Monday.  We had gym with Mrs. Gordon. Reminders: Field Trip forms came home yesterday and need to be returned asap.  There is a consent form for the CBE and the media release form for Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation area.   Please see previous blog posts with more information about the Open Minds program.  Practice times tables. 

October 24

Today we had a microbits workshop.  We gathered art supplies for our mural.  We did Think it Thursday in math - we worked on challenging problems.   Reminders:   Field trip forms are coming home today - please sign and return by October 30.  There is an extra media release form separate from the school forms.  This form needs to be signed and returned as well.   Please read previous blog posts with more info about our Open Minds program.    Tonight is the Halloween Dance

October 23

We did some more planning on our grasslands mural.  In literacy we read "Ninja Red Riding Hood", we wrote 5 questions that people in our table group could answer.  We are learning the roles that we will be using for literature circles.  We did Word Problem Wednesday and we worked on arrays with our Map Math.  Reminders: Students are bringing home Student Account Summary sheets showing outstanding fees - if you paid your Open Minds fee in the last day it will still be outstanding on the sheet as they were printed yesterday.   We are still in need of a few volunteers for Open Minds, Nov. 5, 6, and 7. Friday November 8th, will be a "full day" for room 79.  We will be departing the school at 8:30 that day and returning at 2:30.  Students will be dismissed when we return to the school at that time.  If you need to make arrangements for an alternate pick up for your child, please let Mrs. Gordon know.   The fee for Open Minds is $54.  It has been attached to your

October 22

Today we did True or False Tuesday in math and we created multiplication arrays with the Cross Conservation map.  We wrote in our journals, we had the choice of two topics: If you could be an animal, what would you choose or what is best place to play in Bridlewood? We worked together to design the beginning of our grasslands mural, we drew an independent version and then worked to combine it with a partner.  We revealed the last of the biofacts in literacy.   Reminders:  We are still in need of a few volunteers for Open Minds, Nov. 5, 6, and 7. October 21

We watched the final part of the Grasslands Documentary.  The grasslands are the "least protected and most endangered area".  Fire helps the plants and grass grow and helps the grassland animals.  We did our last biofacts and revealed what some of the artifacts were....ask me which ones were revealed.  We had gym in the music room because of the Federal Election.   Reminders: We are still looking for volunteers for Nov 6, 7 and 8 for our Open Minds trip.   The Halloween Dance is Thursday - tickets are coming today with people that ordered them.   Please pay the fee for Open Minds online at MyCBE account.  The fee is $54.  Practice times tables. :) 

October 18

Today we did a pond reflection and each had the opportunity to share one event from our event maps yesterday. We wrote in our Friday journals.  We did Thank you Friday this morning.  We worked on our representing numbers math journal.   Reminders: If you are available to volunteer for our Cross Conservation field trip on Nov. 5,6,or 7, please let Mrs. Gordon know. (stgordon@cbe.ab.ca) It is an all day trip, spent outside in nature.  This is a beautiful location west of the city and will be filled with many exciting adventures!   The fee for the Open Minds trip is $54.  This can be paid online through your MyCBE account or in person through interac in the school office.   Halloween Dance forms went home yesterday, please return with a $5 donation to get tickets. October 17

Today we went to the pond, learned and practiced a new journalling technique called "Event Mapping".  We had gym.  We did a math journal practice and started our own entry about representing numbers.  We worked on two biofact stations.   Reminders:  Halloween Dance ticket forms are coming home today.  We are still in need of volunteers for Nov. 5,6,7.  

October 16

We watched the Grasslands video and answered some questions.  The Grasslands are the least protected and most endangered area, more than the Amazon rainforest.  We learned a new journalling technique, called a "Sandwich Poem".  We did word problems and completed our representing numbers work from Cross Math.   Reminders:  We are still in need of some volunteers for Open Minds,  Nov. 5, 6, and 7.  Halloween Dance is Oct. 24.   We might be going on a Pond walk tomorrow - be prepared!   

October 15

Today we did a literacy/science centre, we were looking at biofacts from nature.  Each group observed and answered some questions about the biofacts.  We watched the second part of the Grasslands video.  We did true or false Tuesday and made a math rubric for our Cross Conservation Math.  We played soccer in gym and learned about notes in music.   Reminders: We are still looking for volunteers for Nov. 5, 6 and 7th. Please contact Mrs. Gordon if you are available. The fees for Open Minds have been attached to your myCBE account.  Please log on to pay.  The cost is $54/student for the week.  Please start looking at home to make sure you have outdoor clothes for the week - warm jacket, snow pants, boots, mitts and toques.  If your family needs support to access these items, please let Mrs. Gordon know prior to the trip.  

October 10

We had an assembly today from Dare to Care.  We had the opportunity to do some role playing.  We learned about "Ha Ha So".  We had choir and we watered our seed.  We did Friday journals.   Reminders:  No school Friday or Monday  We are still in need of volunteers for our Open Minds trip.  Please contact Mrs. Gordon if you are able to volunteer.   Grade 5s practice times tables to 9 x 9  Grade 4s practice times tables to 7 x 7 

October 9

We did word problem Wednesday in math today.  We had gym with another class.  We talked about our seed and read a book called, "Miss Maple's seeds".  Wed decided how much water and when we are going to water our seeds.  Reminders:   Tomorrow we have a Dare to Care presentation   Friday and Monday are no school days We still need a few volunteers for Open Minds - the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that week are open.   The fees have been uploaded to the MyCBE app - please pay online or come to the school office to pay by debit.   Grade 4s - practice times tables to 7 x 7  Grade 5s - practice times tables to 9 x 9  Please return Friday journals - we will be writing journals tomorrow - please make sure your journal is here! 

October 8

Today in math we did True or False Tuesday.  We planted a clover seed that we harvested from the Pond. We are going to keep one pot and Mrs. King's class is going to keep one pot.  We worked on our Guiding Teaching questions and sketchbook page.   Reminders: We attend Open Minds Nov. 4-8.  Please check the My CBEapp for payment options. If you are interested in volunteering, please let Mrs. Gordon know as we still need volunteers for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that week.   Grade 4 students need to memorize basic facts to 7 x 7 - this is always something that can be practiced at home.  Grade 5 students need to memorize to 9 x 9.  Please be dressed for the weather!  We will go outside everyday, unless it is -20 degrees or colder.   We are planning on planting more seeds from the pond.  If you have some spare time, feel free to do some researching about what seeds need before planting.  We have the following seeds: cattails, clover, wolf willow, wild rose, sage, bro

October 7

Today in science we learned about the different types of clouds and went outside to observe and sketch clouds.  We had gym and played soccer.  We did Make it Monday and we were practicing place value.  We had a fire drill today.  Reminders: If you have a plastic measuring cup that we can borrow to scoop soil for a seed experiment - we would appreciate it!  We still need parent volunteers for our Open Minds trip in November.   There is no school Friday and Monday (Oct 11 and 14) Tomorrow is choir If students would like to, they are welcome to bring a set of headphones to school to use during computer time

October 4

Today we finished our comic strips.  We did gym with a grade 2/3 class - we played bench ball and Mrs. O. said we were great with the younger students!  We did Friday journals - please make sure they come back on Monday.  Mrs. O spent some time with us today.   Reminders:  Pictures are coming home today - they need to be returned by Oct. 11.  Let Mrs. Gordon know if you are interested in volunteering for Open Minds in November.   Have a great weekend! :) 

October 3

Today we did another sage painting. We had a checklist to use to help us meet the expectations.  We used microscopes and magnifying to look at seeds.  We had a double class for gym with Ms. Hess' class.   Reminders: We still are in need volunteers for Open Minds Please bring back Friday Journals tomorrow! 

October 2

Today we painted sage in our sketchbooks.  We got new books for math, we are going to use them as math journals to share our learning and knowledge in.  We had a substitute for part of the morning today.  We researched about wild rose and wolf willow plants.   Reminders:  We are in need of volunteers to attend our Open Minds field trip.  We go to Cross Conservation Area Nov. 4-8.  These will be all day field trips, you may join us for one day or all of the days!  Please contact the school to fill out volunteer registration forms and police clearance forms.  We will happily welcome grandmas, grandpas, aunts or uncles for these days as well!  Thank you!
